Opening Day for a Good Cause!
Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce Steamboat is officially open for 2017/18 ski season!!!
$25 lift tickets all day, 100% of proceeds to support the aspiring athletes at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Come wake up your ski legs, the snow is soft, it felt great get some turns in! 5 runs are open today with access from Christie Lift: Sitz, Sitz Back, Jess’ Cut-Off, Vogue and Stampede.
The entire town has been buzzing this week in anticipation of today. Opening day has always felt like an early Christmas present. On the drive to the mountain I felt like I had 5 cups of coffee, excited like my 5 year old on the first day of school. You could feel the excitement in the air as I walked into gondola square this morning to take my first turns of the year. Everyone was smiling ear to ear, myself included.
Local Olympian Billy Kidd was at Christie lift welcoming everyone to another year. No one talks skiing quite like he does, he reminded me I need to meet him on mountain for free ski tips daily at 1PM “if I want to ski like an Olympian” followed by some chuckles, but I know he really wasn’t joking. Check the sign at the top of the Gondola to see if he’s skiing that day and take some runs with the local legend.
Everyone is going to ask me tomorrow at Thanksgiving, “Byron, you’ve been smiling ear to ear all day today, what’s up?” My response will be, “I went skiing yesterday”…
It’s not too late to get out there and support a great cause!
