It’s a powder day in the ‘boat!  The 5am snow report recorded 11 new inches in the past 24 hours, 6½ inches falling after the mountain closed yesterday… but I also happened to check out the Steamboat Powder Cam, and it sure did look pretty!  My husband does the 5am snow report a few days a week, and he hasn’t had many opportunities this season to truly belt out in pure glee, “It’s a powder day in the ‘boat,” and since he didn’t do the 5am snow report this morning, I’m doing it for him… ladies and gentleman, skiers and riders, boys and girls… IT’S A POWDER DAY IN THE ‘BOAT!!!

Cyclone

I had “powderflies” in my stomach as I hurried to the mountain, anxious to catch that first chair, even more anxious to ride that first run.  This is my first true Straight Talk powder morning, so I’m just a little bit excited, to say the very least.  Rudi’s was a sweet little treat, giving my powder legs a bit of a warm up if you will.  Fresh, untracked turns, floating gently on top of light, fluffy champagne powder®, with a perfectly groomed run underneath (I think, I wouldn’t know for sure because it’s deep enough to not hit bottom)… but I’m sure it was perfectly groomed under there because let me tell you, it was smooth… not like butter, but like gobs and gobs of whipped cream (the light kind of course because there is nothing sticky about the snow up there today).  Ahhh, it’s a powder day in the ‘boat!

Sunset

For my first real run of the day, I went straight for Cyclone to Drop Out.  A lot of people head straight into the trees, which are amazing too, but for me, fresh, deep powder on a groomer way, way, way underneath… I don’t think it really gets any better than that!  That’s the key… get up early, be the first chair up, take a groomed run dressed up with loads and loads of powder, and you too with be squealing, shrieking, screaming, laughing, shouting, bird-calling, hooting and hollering in pure bliss… ahhh, it’s a powder day in the ‘boat!

Trees

Now, I’m not going to detail out all of my runs – I can’t give away my favorite powder stashes – but let’s just say all of the trees I rode today were bottomless, deep, deep, deep and quite frankly, epically amazing!  I did get sucked into Closets, most people do on a powder day like today, and riding it early I found some untracked, super sweet stashes… ahhh, it’s a powder day in the ‘boat!

Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for, all been dreaming of and all been wishing for… but even better news (than it being a simply amazingly awesome powder day) is that it’s still snowing and the snow forecast looks good through the weekend and into Monday.  The next few days might be just as great, maybe even better (although, I’m having a hard time imagining that after the powder morning I just had)… but hey, fingers crossed, especially for my hubby who was home on Dad duty this morning… thank you, thank you, thank you!  And just in case I haven’t made it clear, IT’S A POWDER DAY IN THE ‘BOAT!
