How nice of you to join us! I’d like to invite all Steamboat friends from outside the borders of this fair country to join me in a special place to gather and share and discuss all things Steamboat. I’ll do my best to weigh in with facts, figures and personal opinions from the local perspective, and I look forward to seeing Steamboat through your eyes as well.

Today I made my first turns of the season, and I’m proud to report that I remembered which foot goes in front on my snowboard. And it felt great to be out there. I try to get away from my desk and up the mountain as often as possible, so I’ll let you know what’s going on up there through regular postings here. If you’d like me to report on a particular ski run or on-mountain location, just ask and I’ll report right back (after getting my boots off of course)

Please keep in mind that this is our place for the exchange of stories, ideas, opinions and information. We welcome your input on our products and facilities and value your suggestions about services and activities in Steamboat Springs as well. This is not, however, an appropriate venue for advertising, and we will not allow commercial links. Links to photos, images, information sites and the like are welcome, however we are taking a firm non-commercial stance to maintain a predominantly people and dialog-friendly space. You’ll find our Usage Agreement and Posting Guide on our home page, if you’d like to have a look.

Hope to see you on my.steamboat.com or on the slopes soon!

Thanks JennyO, nice to meet up with you, there should be a few more Brits out there who are Steamboat fans we do hear the odd Brit accent whilst skiing about on our visits. Me and wifey will be visiting Feb 20th untill 4th March, only 78 days according to my Google countdown calendar.

Our snowmaking crew is amazing. I just made a few turns off the Christie Peak Express, and the snow was soft and sweet under a bluebird Steamboat sky. I even found a nice bumpy line down skier's right of See Ya. Fun stuff.

Sounds very nice. I went for a walk in the rain... oh well, only a month to wait until I will be skiing in Steamboat too :-)

It just keeps getting better, Boo! My work calendar today indicated "snowboard with Russian travel agents," so I did! It's amazing what 15cm of new snow can do for 45 acres of skiiable terrain. It's been dumping constantly since last night, and the Mother Nature-made snow is soft and fluffy. Tomorrow morning the Gondola opens for the first time this season, and my calendar says, "ski with Russina travel agents" again. Wish you were here.

Ooooh, nice work calendar! Sounds like the mountain (and Stoker's Bar) is really going to open up this weekend :-)

Nelson in the powder

Ahh… See Nelson Carmichael. See fluffy deep snow. See pretty tracks in beautiful snow.

I enjoyed this Steamboat day, too, but no one took photos of me! It was just amazing. I pressed glass for the first Steamboat Gondola runs of the season, and there was gorgeous powder everywhere. And then I lucked into rope drop on Heavenly Daze, which led me to first tracks of the season on Vertigo!

The Storm Peak Express opened up on Saturday for top-to-bottom snow sliding, and I am planning a little excursion up there at lunchtime today. Tis the season!

Warm regards to all-

Jenny

I think that this could be considered "severe mental and emotional torture" to those of us stuck in the UK at the moment... ;-)

The photos do look absolutely GORGEOUS! Sounds like you had a fantastic day. I think that you should grab a photographer next time to take a photo of you.

The UK is very frosty and wintery too at the moment, but somehow it just doesn't seem as Wintery (or as festive!) as Steamboat. Have a great day today :-)

Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.

Hard to predict of course but history is on your side. Be glad you didn't plan a trip around opening day at Vail today. They've got only one run open.

Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December. Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.

I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast? Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?

I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)

I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...

Actually, we may book the Ore House, having had a vote from the children! We skied a couple of years ago at Christmas and it was very cold. Usually we go in March. Thermals are a definite, if it's really cold I'll make the children wear a long sle...
