I am interested in purchasing my better half ski boots for our vacation in Steamboat. She has rented in prior visits and hasn't had the best fit. Where can we get a good boot with a reasonable price in the area?

Thanks for any info that you can provide.

At the base of the Gondola is the Sportstalker. The boot fitter to talk to is named Eddie. He is amazing and patient and kind and will work with you until you find the right boot and the right fit. He will continue to make adjustments for you if needed. I purchased boots there last spring break and it was great being able to ski and come back down and have him fix something and then head right back out again to try it out. I highly recommeded the store and Eddie the boot fitter!

An additional great bootfitter is John at OneStop Ski shop. (downtown)
One caveat to your request... "a reasonable price" is any price where the boot fits well.
You might get better deals at the end of the season, but why suffer during your vacation.

You can also try Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare downtown.

Fit is more important than price. A poor fitting boot that was a real deal is no deal at all.

Make sure she tries on several different brands as different makers use different "standards" for foot shape.

An experienced bootfitter will know which make is shaped to fit better for different sized feet. Ski Mom 2 has recommended Eddie at Sportstalker in Gondola Square, a good choice that will be convenient for any needed adjustments. And I do recommend you get custom foot beds at the same time as they make a big difference.

I also can chime in on Eddie at Sport Stalker. We bought our daughter boots and skis this past summer on vacation. She just used them for the first time in January. She has VERY difficult feet to fit - size and arch problems. She went in each day of a four-day run and he modified, tweaked, and fine-tuned until the last day she had NO problems. He is a master at what he does and is MOST patient. Bonus - you can pop in at any time during the day since it's just at the base of the mountain.

I bought boots and was custom fit with a footbed at One Stop Ski shop. I was very pleased with the service.

My wife and I are visiting next week. Staying at the inn at steamboat. We are not going to have a rental car. Is there any way or a best way to get to One Stop Ski Shop with the free shuttle service or are we just out of luck and stuck with renting equipment from one of the other more expensive on mountain places? WOW that is quite the run-on. Thanks

you can get anywhere in town riding the city bus,,sf

I believe that ONE STOP might also have a shuttle. If you're going to be going down there for a boot fitting they may even pick you up from your lodging. It would be worth a phone call to see.

After 3 years at the Boat, we finally found One stop last year, I bought a pair of boots and all of our group had custom insoles. This made a huge difference in our skiing.
John and his guys spent a couple hours working on my wifes boots and it made them fit like gloves. We will never go anywhere else.

Ditto fairhunt1.

I have One-Stop fitted boots with custom insoles and they are as comfortable as slippers.... well, as close to slippers as ski boots will ever be ..;-)

John and Pete do a fantastic job.

Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.

Hard to predict of course but history is on your side. Be glad you didn't plan a trip around opening day at Vail today. They've got only one run open.

Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December. Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.

I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast? Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?

I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)

I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...
