What night do they do the fireworks and the "lighted man" - I think we are going to miss it as we leave on the Sat afternoon. Let me know if there is something I shouldn't miss during the week. Thanks!
I am pretty sure it is Sat night but I will double check. Can't seem to get my hands on a detailed schedule yet. For now you can do a search (upper right hand corner of this page) and type in Winter Carnival and you will see tons of photos and posts (4 pages worth to be exact) of last year's Winter Carnival and what people had to say. OR you can click on this link(same search return).
Unfortunately, the night show is Saturday evening at 7:00pm, can you change your travel plans?! However, we will host an Olympian Send Off Celebration, Friday evening at Howelsen Hill, with videos of past and present Olympians , fireworks, live music and the lighting of the town’s own 15-foot tall community Winter Games Caldron. You might be able to catch some of the street events Saturday morning on Lincoln Avenue, featuring shovel races and ski jouring (kids on skis or snowboards being pulled by a horse).

Thanks for the replies, all! Unfortunately it looks like we'll miss all the Festival fun this time. Many returns to Steamboat are surely in the future so we'll try and plan for a Winter Carnival visit down the road.
