I was getting all set for a quiet, within reason, 10 days in Steamboat. Feb 1/2 term (UK) when hoepfully all those who were into skiing would be hitting the Alps so France, Italy and Austria would be jammed. Then Friday night disaster, in one of the freebie commuter papers a full page spread on Steamboat, with pictures and everything. Looks like the rockies might get a mini British invasion.

dear JB
I would not worry about finding steamboat too busy in comparison to europe -
I have been coming to steamboat for 12 years on and off -mostly on as well as other U.S.ski resorts but always came back to steamboat - eventually i bought a place here, I have skiied jan and feb inc presidents day and winter festival - its not that busy comparitively.
Since intrawest took over they are pushing it more, but as far as weekend skiing for USA folk its a long drive from denver and over rabbit ears pass. you can fly into haydn but usa ski hols are ussually thurs thru mon
UK flights are long and the transfer is too and it is pricey for brits at the moment with the dollar so dont worry too much- and steamboat is big - it depends on the terrain you want to ski but you will have a blast and your legs will be tired from skiing not standing in lines.
Ski school is second to none and eating out great and the snow - well you have to experience it.
have a good time - but dont tell too many!

I saw this same article too JB and was also worried.
I've been to steamboat before I love it that everyone I know heads for Vail etc in the States, and as you say, France etc.
I'm going THIS December, how was your trip in February - hopefully our UK journo's report didn't bring about an invasion?
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
