My husband and I are in our mid-twenties and planning out first trip to Steamboat in mid-December. Any advice for a low key bar hangout for the evening? We would like to avoid the clubbing scene or the type of place where people are just trying to get disgustingly wasted or up all over each other. We listen to country and rock music. By all means, we like our beer and whiskey... looking for a good time to hang out with similar folks, maybe hear some bands? Thanks for the input!

So you are looking for booze and music, but not too much of either one.... Lots of possibilities:
Downtown: Mahogany Ridge (great for dinner and happy hour too), Old Town Pub, Tap House (sports bar)
Mountain: Tugboat and Slopeside sometimes has music during happy hour.

Some places only have music on the weekends (Mahogany Ridge and Old Town Pub). Ghost Ranch Saloon has music every night but may be more than you are looking for.

Lucky for you and your husband most of Steamboat is pretty low-key. There are few bars that will have bands playing but even still it is not your typical "club scene." In fact you should check some of them out - it will be fun and Steamboat gets some pretty great bands during the winter season. The bars that most likely have bands performing are Mahogany Ridge, Old Town Pub, Ghost Ranch Saloon, Tugboat (what am I forgetting?). If you really want to avoid the music scene then you can easily find any other bar not mentioned and can have a nice quiet relaxing time. Also -a good time for low-key is after apres-ski but before the late night crowd (from 6-9 ish). You'll have fun -trust me!

What they said ^^

Mahogany Ridge for happy hour ('till 6pm) and bands after 10pm Friday/Sat (Downtown)
Ghost Ranch Saloon - a cool new bar and music venue for 2009! - bands every night (Downtown)
Tugboat - a Steamboat landmark! - bands after 10pm (Mountain)
Old Town Pub (Downtown)
Slopeside for Apres Ski Drinks before hitting the hot tubs and heading out for the evening!

Have fun!

Ghost Ranch Saloon, is a cool place, not really the drunk obnoxious crowd, lots of good music.

We are a fan of the Lodge at Steamboat as well. Returning for our second year in December. Agree the statement regarding the dated decor, although I did notice some units that had been updated. The units are very accessible to parking and the outd...

I don't think there are indoor pools in Steamboat. At least, not that I know of near the ski area. And there are no theme hotels, a la the Smugglers hotels in the Northeast. The Sheraton Hotel & Condos has been the best bar none logistically speak...

Hi! My husband and I are avid skiers and we are trying to figure out the best way to intro our 3 year old to winter activities/skiing. We understand he is a bit young, but I was wondering about the "buckeroo" program. It sounds like a lot of playi...
