Does anyone know the pitch degree of some of the black and double black slopes i.e chutes, christmas tree bowl, storm peak. etc? What groomed black has the steepest pitch? Thanks
I would have to say the steepest black when groomed is Rolex. I know they have to use the winch cat in order to get it done. Not sure about the pitch but maybe I can find out later. I have always thought Cute 1 is the steepest run in the mountain, but obviously never gets groomed.
There is a great pdf file on steamboat.com called Facts and Figures. In this document is a section with steepest trails by percentage amongst a ton of other stuff. It is a great little (big) piece of information and stats on Steamboat.

great link Marlene!!! sounds like for us level 4/5 skiers, the best (easiest) tree skiing would be Bar UE Lift line or Triangle 3 based on percent grade.----yes?

no , moguls and me dont get along too well. If I even get near one, I panic, fall into the fetal position, suck my thumb, and wet myself. So is there such a place in this land they call the boat that has tree skiing for an easy blue kinda guy?..... I promise not to leave too many dents in trees with my forehead if you give me some tips?
Don't confuse % grade in the report link posted below with angle/degrees pitch. A 45 degree angle is a 100% grade. Where you see a 50% grade listed, that represents a 22.5 degree angle.
On the other hand, steepness is very misleading to the eye. Anything over about 15% is steep. The highest avalanche danger occurs around 25 to 30 degrees (because steeper slopes slide all the time and do not accumulate snow pack in most conditions)
I assume they figure the grade based on the vertical drop against the horizontal length of the run but most runs are not uniform in slope. OTOH, it might be the steepest part of the run. For example, Rolex is pretty uniform in slope until the last part which is steeper that the rest of the run. If I remember to bring my GPS some time, I suppose I could figure that out.
You are correct. If you look at the table for "Top Bump Runs" they just divide the vertical drop by the length to get the percent grade. I assume they did the same for the "Steepest Trails" table which doesn't show the vertical and length.
I would be interested to know the slope of the lower part of Rolex if you figure it out.
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
