I have 3 adults coming with us at Christmas that have never skiied or boarded before. What do you think they should take, the never ever or beginner group lesson.? They plan on taking 2 more half classes the next days but i don't know how to guide them on their choice. I want then to take all day classes but they want time to ski around and practice what they learn. thanks
Good questions patti,
The Christmas holiday is quite busy and the group sizes at level 1 will reflect that. So the choice is between the all day or 1/2 day afternoon group lessons or the all day 5 or seven hour or 1/2 day morning and afternoon privates.
If money is not the focal point then the morning 3 hour private is the way to go, the lesson starts a 9am and ends at 12noon. They can relax together at lunch and then practice what they learned after. The private offers a more personally focused lesson experience over the group option and will provide more attention to the three friends you have coming here.
Either lesson option will be considered level 1 never ever and we do interview for this out on the snow so don't worry that they may end up on the Gondola by mistake it won't happen.
i wish a private would work but 2 are learning to snowboard and other wants to ski. i am going to suggest an all day lesson the first day then 3 half day lessons the rest of their time. 1 is my son who skis but wants to board and his fiancee wants to board. the other is my son in law who wants to ski!!!! yes we are paying for the whole trip for all of us so hopefully it won't be toooooo crowded on dec 26th. i plan on taking a lesson too it has been 2 yrs since i last skiied and i am a level 5 who is scared of speed. looks like we have a dysfunctional skiing .family!! hopefully we will get it all figured out by turkey day cause that is when i am purchasing ski lessons. thanks for your prompt response and i may have a few more questions to put out there!!!
What ever you choose patti. They/we will take care of you this year. I am a lucky one to work for you at Steamboat. Have fun! Go Steamboat USA! Tim from KCMO
oh you guys are great! i have been skiing at steamoboat over 17yrs now and i learned to ski there. we have never had a bad vacation there or bad eperience. it will be a great time for us and i can't wait to get back !!! see ya soon!
Firstly, your holiday does not look like dysfunctional family skiing! - it looks like the dynamics of families that we work with all the time and everyone has a great time! Steamboat is the place to come with the whole family, no matter what snow activities they enjoy (snowshoe, ski, board...) and no matter what their level of expertise. We specialize in creating great family memories and family fun.
Barry had some good ideas for you about the 3 hour privates - skiers and snowboarders can be accommodated in a private lesson once they are level2 (able to stand on their equipment and slide around a little) because a lot of our instructors ski and snowboard and can teach to both. I think your idea of an all day group lesson sounds perfect for everyone's first day, but after that if you would like to slide as a family group then I would recommend the family private...it is amazing how much fun it is to learn together, even if members of the family are on different equipment.
If you decide on the private lesson option, you should go ahead and book that sooner than later because it is a busy time of year and instructors that teach both ski and snowboard are in high demand. When you speak to the ticket office just request that you have an instructor that skis and snowboards.
Please let me know if you have any further questions. We look forward to seeing you in December,
Hi Patti! You know, if the private lesson option interests your friends, there are a few instructors who teach both skiing and snowboarding. Believe it or not, it can be done!! Send me a message and I can give you more info on that if you'd like.
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast?
Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?
I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)
I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...
