This was talked about a bit on the old forum, so wanted to see whether opinions have moved on...

This is for people who get SEVERE cold fingers (think numbness and it feeling like someone is sawing your fingers off...) despite very good gloves, two pairs of glove liners AND a pair of those chemical hand warmers. I remember that Trudeska, and possibly a few others, know what I am talkign about here.

One thing being talked about last year were the "Hestra" mittens. I have been looking at some Hestra mittens this year, but realise that there is more than one model - so am not sure what is the best to get? Is there anything now better than Hestra? Any other advances?

Hestra is one of the best IMHO. Any that have Goretex or similar will work.

The best solution for cold fingers are mittens. I always have a pair ready for those sub sub zero days (like -15) with no sun and wind. Fortunately, I only have to drag them out once or twice a season @ Steamboat.

If one has poor circulation in the fingers, mittens are the only solution besides stopping at Four Points, Rendezvous Saddle, etc after every run. Hand warmers are some help but if your fingers are in fingers of a glove, they are not much help, regardless of the insulation.

Cheers

Maybe gore tex glove will help or mitten they keep you warm pretty good.

Hestra makes some of the best gloves/mittens going. I use their Heli Pro glove which is a leather glove with a removable fleece liner. Try the "Hestra Heli" mitt. Popular in my part of the very northern US. I'd be surpirsed if these didn't impress the cold fingered with the possible addition of one very thin liner in addition to the Hestra liner.

Boo, you can ask my friend and instructor, Laura (livetoski) about which Hestra model is the one she has. I borrowed hers one day and saw a big benefit. I tried to buy them in February after my trip and they were sold out for the season.

Look through the member section and PM her.

Thanks for reminding me.

I need to buy a pair for my wife , she has a big problem with cold hands, which one is the best and I guess I would need to buy online, not a big calling for such things in Houston.

I have a pair of Hestra "Crab Claws" (mittens, with the index finger separated), my hands have never been cold in these, they are incredible. I think you would be happy with any of them. The mittens would be best for cold fingered individuals, I like mine because the index finger is separate for some dexterity.
