Steamboat

Your vacation planning community

If you are shopping the internet for ideas about where to take the kids for a ski vacation this winter YOU CAN STOP NOW.. YOU HAVE FOUND IT. I have been skiing Steamboat with my now 14 year old son since he was 6. The ski school, the mountain and the town are all second to none. Every time we put my son in the ski school I was amazed with the improvement in ability. When you get to town don't miss Johnny B. Good's for a milkshake!

This posting is right on! We are in Vail at the moment and having a great time but I miss Steamboat! The friendly atmosphere, the uncrowded mountain, the feathery light powder. Steamboat is the best - we were there last year and I am already shopping for next winter to come back.

Wow, I'm getting excited and I'm just now trying to plan a trip to Steamboat next Christmas. I visited in August 1999 for a softball tournament and it was beautiful then, I can only imagine the winter. Does anyone have any good Condo's they would recommend for three familys (13 pepole total) with two teenages and two children under 10? We are thinking about coming down on the 27th which is the Sunday after Christmas.

Hello all!

My family wants something new this year, so instead of Crested Butte, we're going to try Steamboat! Is Dulany a wise decision for a group of 4 adults and 2 children ages 9 & 11. Is it a good location to the Gondola? Also what is Ski Time Square? Is it like Gondola Square without the Gondola? Like shops and restaurants. Is it near Gondola Square. Thanks so much for your help, we will be going Feb 22-28 09'. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated? Is there anything special for Mardi Gras in Steamboat? I'm a Louisiana girl!!!

Thx, Dawn

The Dulany is at the base just a few short steps to the slope and close enough to Gondola Square. You should love it.

Dulaney is a good location, right at the bottom of the hill and just a short walk on the snow to the gondola and ski school.

STS is several restaurants and shops around the Torian Plum Plaza and the Tugboat - pretty much the rest of it got torn down this summer. Torian Plum plaza has a few shops plus the Slopeside Grill (great pizza, apres, and lunch), Cafe Diva (one of the best fine dines in town), and Saketumi (for sushi). The Tugboat is great for lunch burgers and nightlife. STS/Torian Plum Plaza can be walked from the Gondola or Dulaney by walking across the base area of the ski slope. Or I am sure that Dulaney has a shuttle service that can take you there. Otherwise most of the shops and restaurants are in downtown which is a couple miles away and is served by condo shuttles.

Mardi Gras in Steamboat is fun. Lots of beads and such. I also believe that there is usually a fireworks show on Fat Tuesday that you can view from the base of the mountain.

The Dulany is managed by Steamboat Resorts. You are close enough to the base that there will not be a shuttle bus to the slopes. With the construction of One Steamboat Place, there is a new path to walk up to the Gondola base.

The Dulany is very nice and many of the units have been recently renovated. There is a hot tub on site. If you want a swimming pool, I believe you can go to The Lodge and use that one. You will need to check at The Lodge front desk when you check in. That is where the check-in is for The Dulany.

The Market, Terry Sports and La Montana restaurant are right across the street from The Dulany. You can get groceries and liquid refreshment at The Market.

Enjoy your visit!

Dawn,
I have 2 boys 8 and 10 and we are staying at the Snowflower, but would highly recommend the Dulany for location. They are right next to each other but the Dulany is closer. VERY close to Gondola and ski school. I would say no more than 100 yards. If you are referring to Ski Time Square condos I have stayed there as well. It's a hike from there. I would not recommend it for location over the Dulany. If price is a concern the Snowflower might be another 50 yards further from the base than the Dulany, but stil very convenient and cheaper. We're staying there for the 2nd year in a row on our upcoming trip (3 days from now!!!!!).
Another HUGE plus to the Dulany is that the only mountain grocery/market is right across the street. You can find everything you need at that market for the entire trip. A little more expensive than in town but well worth it.

Well, Dulany's out, they didn't have a 2b2b available, so we booked Canyon Creek @ Eagleridge, Any info on it? I know construction is going on around it I believe, Do I have any view of Gondola Square or the base area from Canyon Creek? Did I make a poor choice? All I really know is it's one of the newest condo's (2001) so it couldn't be that dated, but as far as accessibility to gondola square, is it an easy walk, 200 to 250 yds really? Also we booked a 2b2b and one bedroom has 1 king or queen but it says the 2nd bedroom has two twins, does anyone know if this is true with all their 2b2b? Are we close to the market/Liquor store? Sorry for stupid question's, first time to the "Boat". Any info would be fantastic!

If you are 250 from the Gondola, you are a short bus ride back down the mountain to City Market and Liquor Store, but once there you have a Wal Mart as well as Post Office, Sports Stores and a KFC.

I have skied Steamboat one time, drove up there from Houston one other time just because. We will ski again this year and cant wait. After driving up there I fell in love with all of Colorado , I mentioned to the wife that maybe retiring there might be an option.SInce then we have discussed it several times and I sure hope we can talk each other into it , it wont be soon enough but it is a dream for us now.Hoping to find a place near or outside of boat , maybe a few acres and small house. I love it!

It will all depend on the weather the next few weeks. The snow fall has been on the thin side this season, but conditions are pretty good at the moment. (Weird windy weather today, which has kept the lifts from opening.) If it warms up a lot, it may…
