I hear talk of this crusty run, that crusty run, etc. Sooooo, my goofy question of the week is: How many of the 160+ trails at the boat are groomed each night? Not a big fan of the crustys.
There is a grooming report available every morning in the base area so it is pretty easy to find out. My impression is that all the greens, abouot 90% of the blue and a handful of black runs are groomed every night. The blues that are not groomed are pretty out of the way. Maybe someone with more direct knowledge will chime in.
The grooming report is available on the Steamboat.com website on http://www.steamboat.com/trailsAndLifts.html
According to the website they groom 8 or 9 black runs almost every night and then they groom 3 or 4 additional blacks.
They typically groom 2 or 3 of the listed "blue/black" runs and about 40 of the 55 blue runs.
One error that keeps showing up on the grooming report on the web is that they never show Lower Concentration as groomed.
The grooming report on the web was exactly the same this morning as it was yesterday. That is the first time I saw that. I wonder if they forgot to update it.
There are 43 trails groomed every night, no matter the conditions. Additionally, there are blues and blacks not part of those 43 that are groomed selectively. Today there was the nightly 43 plus another 26 that are not done every night. This totals 69 trails groomed last night or 42% of the trails.
Crusty? Did they say crusty? Wow! The skiing has been fantastic even with the lack of recent snow. Firm in places? Yes. But crusty? Not where I've been skiing. Come out and enjoy pre-spring skiing. Try it, you'll like it.
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast?
Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?
