My favorite run is Buddy's run if it isn't too icy. Otherwise I really like Sunshine Lift Line when its groomed and has a fresh 3 to 4 inchs of powder on top. I just want to hear other peoples opions. I'm interested.
On this last trip, North St. Pats and No Names had to be two of my favorites for powder stashes and adrenaline. On the groomers side -- I had some awesome early morning runs down Rainbow and Buddy's.
Most of the runs off the Sunshine Lift. I like to exit the lift to skiers left, then under the lift, through some trees to the left and onward. Sunshine Lift line is good to get some speed and work on some parallel turns or take a bump around the lift poles. Definitely like Cowboy Cofee and Frying pan (just wish the lift was high speed).
Yipee!! Now that I've actually been there, I can give an opinion on the boat!!!! For me, the wuss that i am, I loved Tomahawk and Quickdraw. Im sure a lot of the mountain is like this, but these runs at lunch time and after 230 pm are DEAD. I mean so dead, I'm almost afraid if I wreck it'll me quite a while until help would arrive.
As for Buddys, never made it over there. Heard it was not in good shape wth the weather they had while we were there. I would love Heavenly Daze if it had a good 5inches of powder on it before I'd give it a try - hopefully next year.
That is what is generally know as since it gets the afternoon sun and has a tendency to go through a freeze / melt cycle in warmer weather. The groomers do a pretty good job with what they have to work with.
My favorite runs are Rolex and See Me when groomed or new powder but I have less experience with the mountain than probably most here.I like Tomahawk for a blue run when it is groomed and fast but avoid it after a heavy snow-you will slog more than ski.
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast?
Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?
I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)
I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...
