Skiing and snowboarding is a ton of fun… and thankfully we don’t have to end the fun when the sun goes down anymore, because it’s time for night skiing in Steamboat my friends. We have flipped the light switch to ON for 1,100 vertical feet of night time fun!
Night skiing is a treat that I take advantage of often. Sometimes you can’t make it up during the day and a few night laps looking down on the Yampa Valley lights is just what you need. Or maybe it has been dumping snow for hours on end and you have been skiing since 9am but it doesn’t matter because the powder lover in you wants to keep making those deep turns into the night. No matter your reason, night skiing is a blast.
The conditions were great tonight – the snow is soft and very carvable; a considerable difference from what I have been seeing during some of the recent days. Skiing a run shortly after it is freshly groomed is amazing – very different from the grooming you are used to waking up to in the morning that was likely put down the night before. As a frequent night skier here in Steamboat, my advice is get to the lifts early and catch that corduroy when it’s fresh. You can thank me later.
Don’t forget we have expanded night skiing hours this entire year running every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday – wow! And between 12/26 – 1/5 you can night ski every night of the week.
Looks like we might be flipping the switch on the weather this weekend with a bit of snow headed our way!
Have a fun weekend and be sure to check out the Steamboat Mascot Stampede from 12:00-3:00pm on Saturday.
