Early Morning Speed
Yesterday’s warm weather combined with an overnight chill have created some incredibly smooth and fast conditions out there. My early morning started with a Heavenly Daze blaze. The groom was elegantly laid in front of me and it took all of 2.5 secs for me to begin grinning from ear to ear.
As the sun begins to sprout its head over the hills today, I would anticipate another mild experience on the mountain. Dress accordingly, wear sunscreen and try not to over-heat. There’s nothing worse than feeling all clammy next to skin while trying to enjoy the great outdoors. This isn’t Richard Simmons hour. Let’s not be sweatin’ to the oldies out there.
If you’re up for a little adventure, today would be a good day to explore one of the many terrain parks our resort has to offer. I ducked into the Maverick’s Terrain Park and have to report that it’s looking to be in great shape. I suppose I’d be lying if I said I was a pro jibber. But the features in the park are diverse and I would suggest stepping out of your comfort zone just a little if you dare.
As the mountain does begin to warm, expect a natural softening of the snow as well. Especially in the flatter areas of our mountain like “saddles” between two runs. If you come barreling into softer snow with some speed behind you, your balance is sure to be thrown. So anticipate the subtle differences in texture and glide and be safe out there. Respect your fellow comrades and ski/ride with care.
All in all, it’s a lovely day to be skiing and riding Steamboat. Happy [almost] President’s Day and Happy Trails.
