After the grooming cats were put into the garage and the 5:00 AM Snow Reporter finished her first cup of coffee, the skies opened up and a trace of snow quickly turned into this…….
Yes, there is one ripping rider under there.
Don’t believe me? Here is his stoked friend following him……
I’ve said it before, don’t rely completely on the 5:00 AM snow report. Check the Champagne Powder® Snow Cam a little later on these sneaky powder days. Here’s what it looks like at 10:30 AM today… much more than a trace of snow.
A solid dumpage of Champagne Powder® freshened up the conditions and evoked hoots and hollars across the mountain. Warm temps persist on lower mountain, causing a heavier snow consistency. Head to the top of Morningside or Storm Peak for the lightest and best snow. A first track down Storm Peak made my day. My skis charged through the creamy goodness as powder puffs rolled over my hips. The 9:00 AM snow report said 3″ and I don’t believe it. It skied like deeper snow. I’ve heard many comments about Steamboat under-reporting our snow totals, which is okay with me. We’ll just all keep our pow a secret 🙂
The freshest turns down Buddy’s run put a smile on my face. A mellow slope, tons of snow, and an energy of excitement carried me down the run without stopping. The visibility is hit-and-miss this morning, so I ducked into the trees when I skied into a cloud.
This is hero snow! The snow is forgiving and makes skiing and riding those tough lines a breeze. Ted’s Ridge at 10:00 AM was still an untouched powder field. Powder blasted over my hips on every turn. The snow had enough moisture in it that I could feel the powder crash up onto my shins, knees, and hips. It was like getting a powder massage at every turn. This is the kind of spa treatment that I love!
It’s my 3rd wedding anniversary today! Happy anniversary to the Mr! The powder gods are smiling on us today, just like they did in 2012 when we got married. From 2/10/2012 (our wedding day) through 2/24/2012 it snowed 83″ – including one DEEP 27″ dream of a day. Champagne Powder® cheers to that!
See you on the mountain,
Meghan Lutterman, Alpine skier
